Every animal deserves a second chance

We rescue the cats and dogs that are most overlooked — black cats, old dogs, and special-needs pets — and give them the loving homes they deserve.

The pets that are most overlooked

Black Cats & Old Dogs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue that saves the lives of cats and dogs from kill shelters — the ones other rescues pass by. We don't turn an animal away because of its age, breed, color, temperament, or health. Every animal we take in receives full veterinary care and lives in a loving foster home until it finds a family of its own.

What we do

More than a rescue

We work every day to keep animals out of shelters and pets with the families who love them.

Rescue & Adopt

We pull overlooked cats and dogs from shelters and place them in foster care until adoption.

Why black cats & old dogs?

The last to be chosen, the first in our hearts

Black cats wait longest in shelters. Senior dogs are passed over for puppies. Animals with medical needs or shy personalities are often the first to run out of time. These are exactly the animals we exist for.

Given a quiet foster home, good medical care, and a little patience, these overlooked pets blossom into the most grateful, devoted companions you could ask for.

Second chances become forever families

Every adoption is a life saved twice — once when we pull them from the shelter, and again when they walk into your home. Our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines, and ready to love.

"Wonderful organization! Thank you so much for working with us. My mother loves her new fur baby!"
